WEBSITE
New: We made two changes to the operating cost of the Co-op website by switching domain registrars and hosting companies. Annual savings = $207.
New: We also improved/changed our website firewall, content management system and website design.
New: A new section called Local and National Discounts was added to the website in 2024. Coupons and discounts to restaurants, retail, pet services, etc., are listed as an added benefit.
To view the discounts, click here.
New: We have a new logo!
GENERAL
New: In October 2024, the co-op rented a post office box from Haymarket USPS for one year for $150.
We need a stable address for our SCC, IRS and membership mail; the box will be renewed in October 2025 at $160. (Rates increased Jan 1).
If you want to mail us a holiday card* or box of cookies, here’s the address:
Regency Cooperative Assn. 14658 Gap Way P.O. Box 173 Haymarket, VA 20169
Just kidding about the holiday card. *
CURRENT BOARD MEMBERS
Our current Board of Directors:
- Debra Mastaler President
- Charles Tucker Vice President
- Linda Kuchniki Treasurer
- Julie Gerkens Secretary
- Bill Pedersen Director
- Bruce Gerdin Director
- Cindy Mitchell Director
SPECIAL ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
Linda Kuchniki and Bruce Gerdin will depart the Co-op board in May; both deserve our heartfelt thanks for their service.
As our Treasurer, Linda creates monthly financial reports and handles our SCC and IRS forms. She plans to continue volunteering with the Regency Women’s Club; our loss is their gain.
Bruce wrote our Regency Review articles and provides real estate information to help maintain accurate membership rosters. This summer, Bruce is headed to the beach with his grandkids; we send him off with good wishes and lots of sunblock.
Alan Marzelli and Debbie Gentry were on our Board in 2024 but had to step away for personal reasons before their terms ended. We thank them for sharing their time and their talents.
Bill Pedersen, Julie Gerkens and Cindy Mitchell will remain on the Board for another year. Thanks to all three for stepping up when needed, for doing a great job and for approaching all tasks with a positive attitude.
And finally, Charles Tucker.
Charles has been a member of the Co-op Board for eight years and plays a key role in our organization.
As Vice-President, Charles runs our insurance renewal program and updates our spreadsheets, webpages and resource pages.
He has also documented our computer processes and created step-by-step ‘how-to’ guides. Thanks to his hard work and attention to detail, our projects and processes run smoothly.
I tried to bribe Charles with wine and muffins to stay, but no, he’s adamant about retiring and tackling a kitchen renovation.
He will be missed.
OUR FUTURE
To say 2024 was a challenging year for the Co-op is an understatement.
After our long-time Administrator, Sue Reitzig, passed away, we had to make decisions based on the changes to our organization and the changing economy.
These decisions led us to update the website, automate our internal processes and create how-to operational guides for future Co-op boards.
This restructuring tackled our technology challenges but not the “people” part.
Technology is great until it isn’t.
Spreadsheets are wonderful but they can’t make phone calls. We still had important “people” questions to answer:
- Who will run the website when our current webmaster rotates off the Board?
- Who will manage the vendor insurance renewals and agreements in the future?
- Who will do the hours of phone calling and follow-up work required to recruit and maintain vendors and members?
To be successful in the present, we must look for ways to manage our technology and administrative needs in the future.
Luckily, Mary Lu Belote, Barbara Clement, and Roger Halls will join our board in May to help with this.
With their expertise and the skills of our remaining board members, the Co-op will continue to operate, expand and move forward.
Hooray!
TO CLOSE
On behalf of the Regency Cooperative Association Board of Directors, thank you for being part of the Co-op.
Please tell your new neighbors about us and send in vendor recommendations so the directory continues to grow!
Here’s to a successful, happy and healthy 2025 for all.
Respectfully,
Debra Mastaler
President, Regency Cooperative Association
